Fitness clubs operate within set rules and regulations. As a new member of a fitness club, the first thing you should familiarise yourself with is the dos and don’ts, as the last thing you want to do is create bad blood between you and your fellow trainees.
While clubs have different operational regulations, below are etiquette rules you should have up your sleeve as you embark on your fitness journey in the club of choice.
Whenever in Doubt, Always Ask
Don’t be afraid to ask questions whenever that need arises. You are better off appearing inquisitive rather than creating a mess or annoying other members because of ignorance. Whenever you want to select equipment or a specific item near where someone else is exercising, always ask them if you can.
Put Back the Items Where They Belong
One of the most common mistakes most gym-goers make is leaving items such as free weights on the floor or not putting them back where they are supposed to be. Try as much as you can and leave the place the way you found it. Don’t be the person who makes other people angry because of not following up on simple etiquette rules.
Be Mindful of Others
Always be aware of your surroundings as you don’t want to hurt others in the process. For example, you can’t do dumbbell kickbacks without checking if there is someone behind you. On the other hand, you don’t want to hurt yourself in the process. Make sure the equipment is in good condition before starting out.
You Cannot Hog the Equipment
Always remember that many other people are looking to use the equipment you could be using. Don’t use a piece of equipment for too long, especially if it is one of the popular ones. Give other people a chance also to enjoy their time there.
